In November 2002 i was dispatched to Iraq to work for the Slovak embassy in Baghdad. In the beginning, Peter OM6TY, invited me and two of my colleagues Bob OM1KW and Jaro OM3TZZ to join CQ WW CW Contest using his callsign YI9OM. We made 4.975 contacts . After that i kept using this callsign until the end of the year. From 4th of January i got a permission to use official callsign of Baghdad radio club YI1BGD. Unfortunatelly my operation was stopped on 13th of February 2003 when i had to be evacuated because of the upcoming american invasion to Iraq. During this short period of time i made almost 5000 contacts as YI1BGD. I returned to Baghdad in June 2003 and apllied for my own license. I was issued a call YI/OM2DX. Until the December 2003 i made more then 18.000 contacts including 1068 contacts in CQ WW RTTY contest as YI9X.
